Six Rules for CSS in Email Design.

I’ve come up with six rules that address many of the current problems with HTML email layouts. If you find yourself hand-coding templates for email marketing, this is for you.

#1 If you’re using an internal stylesheet, it should be placed inside the body tag.
#2 Windows LiveMail (now out of beta) doesn’t allow for classes or ID’s. Lame. Solution: inline styles.
#3 Gmail loves inline styles but isn’t very fond of internal styles.
#4 Building a multi-column layout? Tables required. Thanks Outlook 2007.
#5 There is no background-position, background-color or background-image support for most web-based email clients.
#6 It never hurts to be overly explicit with width and height parameters on images, divs and table cells.

Phones and Coffee

designers and mac-owners, if you’re in the market for a new cell phone, it may be worth your time to check out what phones support mac os/x. for me, it’d be nice if the bluetooth on my samsung t629 allowed me to drop photos and mp3’s back and forth from my mac to my phone.

Question: why do providers like verizon, sprint or t-mobile carry the load in advertising cell phones? why don’t manufacturers like motorola or samsung do more big-budget tv advertising? think about it. outside of nokia’s n-gage or the iPhone, most ad budgets are provided by the providers. anyone can answer the question.

as for other things, i drink the roasterie’s brew 5-6x’s a week. most days, i’m drinking the free roasterie espresso my workplace provides. however, there are days i just want to drink roasterie voodoo — their black coffee. and that is also widely available in my workplace. so, if you’re a coffee-lover, you should definitely try kansas city’s finest blend.
